Dear Clipper Families,                                   

It seems like the school year has just begun, and it’s hard to believe November is fast approaching. This week, our schools commemorated Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which was observed as a Federal holiday on Monday, October 10. Thank you to the members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Education Department, and other Native American tribes, who visited our schools throughout the week to share their heritage, while also educating us about the history of Colonization. We must never cease to learn from our past and, we must never forget that Falmouth schools are built on the land of the Wampanoag Nation.

Frightfully Good Times

As students and staff keep saying, this year feels like pre-pandemic life! We’re finally seeing a “Return to Normalcy” throughout the district, and Halloween is a reminder of all the things we once took for granted. It’s wonderful to see the revival of so many special events, like tomorrow night’s Morse Pond Monster Bash, for the first time in three years! Shout-out to the Morse Pond PTO for making it happen! Students at all four elementary schools will celebrate with parades next week, allowing them to show off their costumes and enjoy the simple joys of youth. 

Clipper Corner

There are countless positive things happening in our schools - from academic achievements to invaluable contributions from our students, staff, and volunteers. These important stories often get lost in the shuffle, so we’re happy to share them with you in the Clipper Corner. Be sure to check out the latest edition tomorrow featuring the next recipient of the Unsung Hero award!

School Safety

I’ve received many appreciative comments from parents and guardians about our School Safety Initiative, led by Safety Coordinator Paul Stefanelli. It gives them a great sense of comfort to see the safety monitors fulfilling their important role, at every school. They’re highly visible, walking around the buildings and grounds, making sure doors are always secured, and following other best practices throughout the day. If you missed our feature on Mr. Stefanelli, you can access it in the Clipper Corner. There is nothing more important than keeping our students and staff safe.

Family Forum on November 29

Since the pandemic, our support needs for social-emotional learning have increased, due to a number of factors. I invite all Clipper families to join me at Lawrence School Library on November 29 at 6:30 pm to discuss how we can best meet those needs. Your unique input is valued and welcomed. I hope to see you there!
