4th Grade Band Info
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to offer your child the opportunity to play a musical instrument. The 4th grade instrumental music program is a valued and integral part of the curriculum in the Falmouth Public Schools. Studying a musical instrument is rewarding, fun and has a positive impact on your child’s development that will last a lifetime. It develops responsibility, self-discipline, concentration, self-confidence, creativity and a lifelong appreciation of music.
This program will take place either in the mornings or afternoons starting the first week of October. (Please see the specific times below) Instruction will be provided by a certified music teacher with the assistance of qualified and responsible Falmouth High School students and/or volunteers. The only cost to you is the rental or purchase of an instrument and the method book. Parents are responsible for their students’ transportation to/from rehearsals. Students must be dropped off or picked up promptly for all rehearsals.
1st Lesson at Elementary School (Required) - 1st week of October.
North Falmouth Elementary School: Monday mornings 8:00-9:00am
East Falmouth Elementary School: Tuesday mornings 8:00-9:00am
Mullen Hall Elementary School: Wednesday (Trumpets, F Horn, Baritone, Trombones) from 8:00-8:50am
Thursday (Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax) 8:00-8:50am
Teaticket Elementary School: Wednesday 3:30-4:20pm
Your child can see a demonstration of the instruments at school or online at our new 4th grade Band info site. Music and Arts offers a rental plan as a convenience to you. However, you may acquire an instrument, new or used, from any source. It is important that all students have the method book “Standard of Excellence” Book 1. This book can be purchased on the instrument rental night or online. There is also a limited supply of school-owned instruments that students with financial hardships may use. Please email Mr. Steven Edwards to discuss this.
If you would like your student to participate in the program, please complete the "Registration Form" on our Music website. Please RENT online at Music and Arts. You can rent online at www.musicarts.com and click on Click on “rentals or rent-now” on the home screen.
There will be an optional introductory group lesson at 6:30pm at the Lawrence School on Thursday, September 29. Please meet in the auditorium. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch. This should last about an hour.
Please feel free to email or call if you have any questions or concerns.
Cordially,
Steven Edwards, Fine Arts Department Head, K-12
