June 2020 Newsletter

Sandra M. Kapsambelis –  Principal

Meghan Conant – Asst. Principal/SEBA

Hello Teaticket Families,

As the school year winds down I would like to thank the students, staff, and families for all of their hard work and dedication, for a year we never could have imagined.  The teachers and support staff  have worked exceptionally hard to support each student and their families to not only  to make academic progress but also address each child’s well being. I am truly proud and thankful to have such a collaborative team.

Over the summer I would like to encourage families to enjoy some outdoor fun with your child, family time, and reading every day. All students will be able to keep their Chromebooks over the summer if they would like to access some of the enrichment opportunities that will be available through the school website.

As the school year comes to a close we have begun to work on classroom placement for the 2020-2021 school year. Letters with teacher assignments will be mailed home in August. At this time we have also planned for a home edition art show, virtual field day and some special events for our fourth graders! There are still lots of things to look forward to!

Although there will be many more communications before the end of the year, this will be the last newsletter. The administration and staff thank you for your partnership in supporting your child. Have a safe summer vacation, enjoy the time spent with your children, and we will look forward to embracing whatever the new school year will have in store for us! For those heading to Morse Pond next year, we wish them well and are confident that the students have the skills they need to be successful in the 5th grade!

Warm regards,

Sandy Kapsambelis, Principal

Hello families!

As we have moved through the “Covid-19 Stay-at-home” process, we have been able to connect with families, and with students, to help address the various needs/concerns that have arisen during this difficult time. Please continue to reach out if you, your child, or your family needs any extra support. We are available via phone, zoom, and email. We would much rather have you reach out, and stay connected, than to be worried/concerned at home.  Many families have been surprised, and relieved, to hear that others have experienced similar concerns, and that help is available.

Please remember that it is important to continue to take care of yourself during this uncertain time. We all handle stress differently and it is normal to have days that feel more challenging than others. Take breaks when you need to and find something enjoyable you can do each day, even if it feels small.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach us at the school:

Art with Mrs. Duffany

Teaticket Art Show (Home Edition):  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to have our annual Teaticket Art Show and Ice Cream Social a few weeks ago. Nevertheless, this week when you pick up student belongings, you will find an additional brown bag filled with your student’s artwork from the 2019-2020 school year.  The next two art lessons will have students take a look through their artwork and display their favorites in a special “at home edition of the Teaticket Art Show”.  It will also be the spotlight for the spirit Friday on June 12th.

Virtual Art Slideshow:  I will be putting together a special slideshow to share all of your creations from home.  If your child has a special piece of art and would like to share it for the presentation, please email it to

Thanks for everything you have been doing at home to keep your student engaged in art learning during these trying times. Have an enjoyable summer break!

Library and Technology with Mrs. Rodriguez

As of today, there are 420 library books checked out to students. Please help your child find any borrowed  library books. You can return them this week (June 1st and 3rd) when you come to school to pick up your child’s belongings. If you are not sure if your child has a library book, or what the titles are, please email me directly and I can let you know.

I hope that all students will continue to read over the summer, and that families will take advantage of all that the Falmouth Public Library has to offer, once they have reopened.

In the meantime, they are planning to give away free STEM kits, featuring a different project every week, starting next Tuesday, June 2. Click on this link to see the full list of events: Falmouth Public Library Events

Exciting news:

This year I have introduced lessons on Digital Citizenship using the Common Sense Education curriculum. The Teaticket School, along with all of the other schools in the district, has officially been recognized as a Common Sense District! This means that these lessons are being taught to all Falmouth students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Exciting news for next year:

This week I received a grant from the Falmouth Education Foundation for over $1,000 to buy 6 Bee-Bots and accessories! I will be using these little robots to teach Kindergarten and Grade 1 students about coding, sequencing , and problem-solving, but all students will have the opportunity to play and learn with them during technology classes.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me by email:

Music with Ms. O’Neil

I hope you’re all doing well at this time. Thank you so much for all your fun videos and photos of your child engaging in the lessons that our K-4 Elementary Music staff has worked so hard on putting together. Even in these difficult times, you’re all doing a wonderful job singing, dancing, performing, and creating beautiful pieces of music. I hope I get to see even more wonderful musical creations before the end of the school year. We will be having a K-4 Talent Show (run virtually by the Music department) - so, please keep your eyes open for that opportunity!

Additionally, thank you so much for your continued support of music in our school. The world is a better place when we can sing and enjoy music together. We are a little further apart, physically; however, we can still stay close together as a Teaticket community, virtually. Please stay safe and healthy -- see you next school year, and best wishes to all.

Physical Education with Mrs. Shanahan

I hope everyone is doing well. Obviously we did not expect to end our school year this way. Participation in the PE lessons has increased in the past week, thank you for logging in and doing the activities. The PE dept is working on a virtual field day for grades K thru 6 for the last week of school. The lessons we have been doing the past few weeks will be part of the field day menu to choose from.  So please continue to log in and try the weekly lessons.

Next year we will continue to build on student skills and also incorporate some fitness testing for grades 2-4 district wide. We will be talking more about cardiovascular and muscular strength as well as flexibility. Students will do a pre and post assessment to help them understand the importance of all three fitness components.

If you have any questions regarding Physical Education class please contact me at .

Reading Corner with Mrs. McMenamy and Mrs. Chicoine

We would like to personally thank each and every family for their hard work and effort during these uncertain times. During this period of time while learning from home, we have tried to make sure that all Title 1 students either had books delivered to their homes or included in their bag of student belongings. These books are perfect for summer reading together as a family, and are meant to be an addition to your home library. Please continue to be safe, enjoy the summer, and we look forward to seeing your students this fall.

Math Coaching Corner with Mrs. Bowerman and Ms. Strong

Hello families!

As we enter our last month of the school year, we’d like to recognize and commend the effort and hard work of your teachers as they learned and created new ways to teach your children from a distance.  We’d also like to thank all of you for helping to support your children in their ‘at home classroom’ in the midst of so many challenging circumstances.  It is our hope that you were able to find some silver linings over the past couple of months.  As teachers, we love being with your children throughout the day and watching them grow in so many ways.  In this busy world, sometimes the time families have together can be so limited.  For better or worse, this pause has provided a unique opportunity to come together as a family that has not happened in many, many generations.  As challenging, frustrating, and perhaps painful as life can be at times right now, the benefits to many will be long-lasting.

As we move into our summer on Cape Cod, we have some exciting math news!  As you may have read in Dr. Duerr’s most recent email, our district is the recipient of a generous grant from the One8 Foundation.  This grant will provide for summer learning and engagement of mathematics with the expanded and enhanced ST Math program.  This program will be available to all FPS students in grades K - 4 and will provide a unique opportunity for students to develop their mathematical understanding through play.  The program itself is based on extensive research of how children internalize mathematical concepts.

Research shows:

  • memorizing all the different ways to solve math problems isn't enough for long-term success,
  • working through challenging problems builds a deep understanding of how math concepts work,
  • all children are capable of succeeding in math,
  • early math skills are the number one predictor of later academic success (more than literacy skills or positive student behaviors)

If more students develop a solid foundation in math at an early age, experiencing the boost in skills and confidence needed to persist through more challenging problems, how many more students will we see graduating high school with proficiency in math?

  • ST Math has replicated the process of developing deep understanding of mathematical concepts  through play.
  • ST Math students work to solve age-appropriate, ability-driven mathematical puzzles.
  • ST Math is designed to engage students and encourage them to persevere to solve challenging problems.

JiJi, the ST Math mascot, hopes to spend some time with our students this summer through sustained weekly connection. Look for more information about ST Math soon!! And, keep an eye out for JiJi!

Have a GREAT summer!!

Preschool News from Laney Cooke-Johnson- Director of Early Childhood Programs

Dear Families,

Happy June!

It is hard to believe that this is our last newsletter of the year. It has been a crazy last few months and I want to thank you all very much for your patience and perseverance as we meandered our way through this challenging time together.  I know there were some great things that came out of all being home together and I know there were also challenges. We appreciate all of your efforts to engage your child’s learning as well as staying engaged with your child’s preschool staff over the past several weeks of school. As we say so long to our preschoolers heading to kindergarten, we thank you for sharing them with us over the past year (s). We wish them well as they hop to the next lilly pad!

We are not sure what school reopening will look like, however, we will remain in touch with up to date information as it becomes available to us. Teacher assignment letters for preschool will be sent home by June 30th. If you do not receive one, please contact my secretary Lucy Dasilva, at or 508-548-1052 option 7 ext. 201.

Although I will be retired, Lucy will be available at East Falmouth School the last week in August and will be able to help you. If this changes, we will let you know. We will also let you know when my replacement has been hired and whom you should contact regarding your child’s needs once that information becomes available. You will receive information regarding an orientation prior to the start of preschool. We still have some spaces open, so spread the word!  I hope you all have a FUN, relaxing summer and are able to create some special memories with your children.  As always, thanks for partnering with us in your child’s education. We enjoy spending time with your children so very much. I wish you all the best as I sail off into retirement, I will miss you.

Happy Summer! :)
