Mako Memo - May 5, 2023

MAKO MEMO

May 5, 2023

Dear Mullen-Hall Families,
This week our Makos art work was celebrated on Wednesday. Thank you to Mrs. Johnson and her volunteers for their hard work in supporting this amazing event! We are so fortunate to have a school community grounded in kindness!

On Saturday, the four elementary buildings will host a bike expo at the Teaticket Elementary School from 9-11am. Our wonderful PTOs from each building have donated bikes to be raffled.
Please stop by and visit this first time event!

Another school wide event will be the releasing of butterflies.  As part of Earth Week  Celebration, each class will be hatching butterflies to be released on a future date.
A garden that attracts butterflies will also bring native bees and birds. Not only are butterflies good for the environment,  they also play a role in increasing biodiversity. If butterfly populations diminish (or disappear altogether!), the impact will be felt higher up and can affect our entire ecosystem.
*** Bus Reminder: Please remember to be at the bus stop five minutes ahead of your pick up time. This is helpful for the schedule of the route. ***

Martha’s Vineyard Banking Report:
We had such a great turnout at banking today, thanks to all of the students who came and participated.  They had sooooo many coins but we didn't mind!
In order to help the students understand a bit more about the value of the money, we had some fun this morning and asked them how much it costs for one ticket to the movies.  The answer choices were $5, $12, or $100.  We got a variety of answers (even $100 was picked!), but some of the kids knew the correct answer was $12.  We will keep doing learning activities like that throughout the rest of the year.

We will draw our first weekly winner of the piggie banks next week. The national drawing through School Savings is for an Amazon Fire and will be drawn on Memorial Day, any students that have banked with us 10 times since the beginning of the school year will be automatically entered.

We only have about a month left of banking so remind your kids to keep coming on Fridays to get all their money in the bank before the summer!
