September 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is an important annual notice regarding special education services and the use of MassHealth/Medicaid benefits for your student.
The School-Based Medicaid Program (SBMP) offers local education agencies (LEAs), such as Falmouth Public Schools, the opportunity to be reimbursed for providing MassHealth-covered services to MassHealth members. Falmouth Public Schools may bill MassHealth for reimbursable services and administrative costs. Parents and guardians of MassHealth members are not billed for these services.
Use of MassHealth/Medicaid Benefits: For students covered by public health insurance (MassHealth/Medicaid), the district can use these benefits to pay for certain special education services included in an IEP and other specific services outside of the IEP. Before accessing these benefits, the district will provide written notice and obtain your voluntary written consent via the one-time Parental Consent form. Services include nursing services, physical, occupational, and speech therapies, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, and psychotherapy services.
Revocation of Consent: If you have given consent for the use of MassHealth/Medicaid benefits and wish to revoke it, you must do so in writing. Once the school district receives your letter, the district will send you a notice stating any changes.
Granting or revoking consent to allow Falmouth Public Schools to bill MassHealth does not change the amount, frequency, or duration of MassHealth services that MassHealth members can receive inside or outside of school.
If you relocate or your student enrolls in another district, the new district will seek your consent again.
Thank you,
Sandy Kapsambelis
Director of Student Services
