The mission of the art curriculum is focused on teaching critical thinking skills and encouraging creative problem solving, self-discipline, positive self-esteem, and personal motivation. Students' expression of their unique ideas through art signals their growth in the knowledge and techniques of the visual arts.
The curriculum is designed to provide students with a sequential program of art instruction from elementary school through high school. All students are given the opportunity to develop skills in creating, revising, exhibiting, and assessing their work, as well as gain knowledge and understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of the arts. Students also develop connections through the visual arts with other disciplines within the core curriculum and with art resources in the community.
