Dear Staff and Families,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I write today, to share an update on Navigating the Future Together. At a special meeting last night, the School Committee voted to support my recommendation to extend the timeline for proposed plans 1 (converting the current Teaticket building into an Early Learning Center) and 2 (operating three elementary schools instead of four).
The Falmouth School Committee hereby agrees to the following:
- In response to community requests for additional data and exploration of options, the school district will engage the services of the New England School Development Council (NESDEC) to conduct an analysis of enrollment projections, facilities use, and other considerations, and to present a report that includes a series of options for consideration.
- Based on the findings and recommendations in the NESDEC report, the School Committee and Administration, in consultation with the School Building Needs Task Force, will establish a schedule for additional community engagement, deliberation, and decision, but there will be no actions taken on these proposals that would take effect in the 2025-2026 school year.
Proposed plans 3 (taking Morse Pond off-line as a school), 4 (reconfiguring the grade structure for schools serving grades 5-8), and 5 (planning for the renovation of Lawrence School) will continue on schedule. The Building Needs Task Force will continue to study these three proposed plans and hear feedback from our community. You may continue to provide feedback using this form. We will continue to share information on proposed plans 3, 4, and 5 only (not proposed plans 1 & 2) during the last five community forums.
