CLIPPER Habits for Success

In addition to academic progress, the report card also includes progress for the CLIPPER Habits for Success — a set of behaviors that support strong learning habits. These behaviors are readily observable and include skills like listening and following directions, showing respect, staying focused, accepting feedback, and asking for help when needed. CLIPPER Habits offer an objective and reliable way to report on behaviors that help students thrive.

  • Listen to and follow directions.
  • Follow school and classroom rules during structured times.
  • Follow school and classroom rules during unstructured times.

  • Exhibit age-appropriate organizational skills.
  • Accept feedback in order to learn from others.
  • Demonstrate cooperation and respectful behavior towards peers.
  • Demonstrate cooperation and respectful behavior towards adults.
  • Apply learned strategies to support social and academic problem-solving.
  • Maintain focus and attention during classroom activities.
  • Actively participate in learning activities.
  • Advocate for help when faced with challenges, obstacles, and setbacks.
  • Accept responsibility for own behavior.

These habits are consistent from grade to grade. Rather than grading “effort,” which can be subjective and interpreted differently from teacher to teacher, CLIPPER Habits provide a consistent and measurable way to report on the behaviors that contribute to a student’s success in school. These habits will be assessed using the same Performance Indicators as academic standards.
