Kindergarten ELA
To learn and practice skills in ELA and literacy, we have developed theme-based units that incorporate social studies and science content. These studies allow students to develop foundational literacy skills, while addressing essential grade-level content.
Students will use Fundations, which is a systematic, foundational word study/phonics program that complements the theme-based units, RAZ-Plus, Decodable readers, Scholastic resources, and Starfall.
New learning at Kindergarten includes:
-
Understanding how stories and poems are the same and different
-
Separating the first, middle, and last sounds of simple words
-
Continuing a conversation by listening to other people’s ideas and asking questions to learn more about what they think
-
With help from an adult, using written words and drawings to express an opinion or give information about something
