About the Math Department
To promote deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, our math instruction emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. From kindergarten through twelfth grade, students develop confidence and analytical skills that support both academic success and everyday decision-making.
Our Approach to Mathematics Instruction
Students engage in learning that is grounded in number operations, through which they learn to define problems and ask meaningful questions. This leads students to recognize patterns and use deductive reasoning to develop effective solutions.
Through a structured and progressive curriculum, our students gain the confidence to tackle complex problems, refine their analytical skills, and communicate mathematical ideas effectively. As they advance into their high school studies, our students strengthen and apply these skills, preparing them for academic success and real-world challenges.
We selected a singular curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 8. In the fall of 2023, our teachers began the implementation of iReady. Through the use of this curriculum and its array of resources, our teachers guide students in the development of strong computational abilities, logical reasoning, and the application of math in real-world situations and across different subject areas.
In grades 9-12, every grade offers a Mathematics course taught by certified Mathematics teachers. Mathematics teachers have received training in differentiation, co-teaching, and use of digital tools to provide targeted feedback to students. At this level, courses are grouped under the following designations: College Preparatory (CP), Honors (H), and Advanced Placement (AP). Grades 6-12 Mathematics teachers incorporate rigorous lessons and materials that prepare all students for advanced courses, including honors and AP courses at the high school level.
Our goal is to make mathematics accessible, relevant, and exciting for all students, empowering them with the tools they need for lifelong learning, growth, and success.
