Extracurricular Activities
-
Extracurricular activities are an important part of our program at Lawrence School. Participation can be an interesting and exciting experience and an opportunity to learn a new skill, meet new friends, try a new sport, follow a new interest or continue doing what you already like.
All students are eligible and encouraged to participate in any extracurricular activity. However, the administration reserves the right to suspend participation by a student if disciplinary problems arise. Students must understand that after-school commitments to a classroom teacher take precedence over any extracurricular activity.
The following is a list of activities offered at the Lawrence School.

Athletics
-
Lawrence School offers a variety of sports for both female and male students. For the purpose(s) of participation in Interscholastic Sports, the Lawrence School has adopted the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) standards as they apply to a prohibition of student use of tobacco products, non-prescription drugs, and/or alcohol use. MIAA handbook information is available at the Falmouth High School Athletic Office and online at www.miaa.net. Students are also required to meet a minimum standard of academic and behavioral achievement in order to participate in interscholastic sports programs.
Fall Athletic Teams: Field Hockey, Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Soccer, Cross Country
Sign ups for fall sports begin the first week of school with practices starting the second or third week of school. Teams generally practice after school Monday through Thursday and occasionally on Fridays. Games and meets are scheduled with other area middle schools and the season ends in late October or early November.
Eighth grade students are allowed to participate on the Falmouth High School Football team. Football practices begin in late August before school starts and continue into late November. Signups for football start at the end of the previous school year in June.
Winter Athletic Teams: Boys’ Basketball, Girls’ Basketball
An intramural basketball program open to all students is offered after-school in November and December. Toward the end of the intramural program, students are given the opportunity to try out for the interscholastic basketball teams. Practices and games for the interscholastic teams begin in January and end before February school vacation. A total of 10-12 games are scheduled for the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams with other area middle schools.
Spring Athletic Teams: Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field
Sign ups for the interscholastic spring track program are held in late March or early April. Track practices begin in April, Monday through Thursday with occasional Fridays. Practices are held at Lawrence School on some days and students are bused to FHS as often as possible to use the track and field facilities there. Generally, 5-6 track meets are scheduled with other middle schools. The season culminates with the All Cape Track Meet held in early June.
