Frequently Asked Questions
-
How old does my child need to be to enroll in the lottery?
Posted by:Your child must be 3 years of age on or before August 31, 2023 and fully potty trained to enroll as a peer partner.
-
Why is there a preschool lottery?
Posted by:The Falmouth Public Schools has moved to a lottery registration system because a large number of parents have expressed interest in having their children attend our public school program. There is often more demand for enrollment than there are available openings. This system provides fair access to our programs.
-
How does the lottery work?
Posted by:All children’s names that are entered into the lottery will be pulled and assigned a number. The names will be drawn, alternating between boys and girls. Children will be assigned a preschool slot for their preferred session.
-
How do I sign up for the lottery?
Posted by:Preschool applications are available in January of each year on the Falmouth Public Schools website, or you may request an application by contacting the Office of Student Services at 508-548-0151 x 143, or email Donna Bordieri dbordieri@falmouth.k12.ma.us and one will be sent to you. Applications should be returned as soon as possible, but will not be accepted for the lottery after February 10, 2023 at 4p.m.

Posted by:You are welcome to attend the lottery in person. We will also send a zoom link for any family who would like to attend virtually.
-
How will I know if my child has a preschool slot?
Posted by:All children’s names that are entered into the lottery will be pulled and assigned a number. Letters to all who participated in the lottery will be mailed within seven days notifying you of the results.
If your child’s name was drawn for an available preschool slot, you will be mailed additional information on school-based registration, immunization requirements, and tuition payments, etc. Children will not be allowed to begin preschool in September without up-to-date immunizations. Additionally, your child must be toilet trained to begin preschool as a peer.
A non-refundable tuition deposit of $100.00 will be due no later than March 17, 2023 to secure your child’s slot.
-
If my child’s name was not drawn, are there other options?
Posted by:Yes. The Town of Falmouth has other high-quality private preschools, center-based and family childcare centers located in the community. If you would like a list of these preschools, you may contact Bethany Gay of the Coalition for Children at 508-548-0220 and a listing will be sent to you.
The Falmouth Public Schools will maintain a waitlist of children who did not obtain an available slot in the order that their name was drawn in the lottery. If an opening becomes available, parents will be notified and offered an opportunity to enroll their child in the program. If a parent declines the opportunity to enroll, they may remain on the waitlist, but their name is moved to the bottom of the list in order to provide fair access.
The waitlist remains in effect for that school year only and does not carry over to the next school year.
-
What if I do not get my deposit in on time?
Posted by:All deposits must be received by March 17, 2023. If your child has been granted a slot and you are experiencing a financial hardship, please contact Aja Gonzales at the Office of Student Services at 508-548-0151 ext 112.

If my child is enrolled in the FPS preschool, will he/she be guaranteed a slot for the next year?
