SCHOOL NURSE SERVICES
The School Nurse serves as the health professional for the school community. The nurse advocates for the health and safety of students and staff with the primary goal being to support student learning. This is accomplished by the provision of such services as:
*Acute and Chronic illness assessment and intervention
*Development of individualized health care plans as needed
*Injury assessment and intervention
*Nursing procedures such as: catheterizations, tube feedings and tracheostomy care
*Medication administration
*Health education
*Screening for health factors that impact learning
*Assessment and intervention for students with mental health needs
*Crisis team participation
*Wellness Committee participation
*Management of communicable diseases
School nurses collaborate with families and staff and integrate the health needs of the student with the education program. In this way, parents are assured that their child's health needs are being appropriately met during the school day and teachers are able to devote their time to educating students.
