Mission

The mission of the art curriculum is to teach critical thinking skills and to encourage creative problem solving, self-discipline and positive self-esteem and personal motivation. With growth in the knowledge and techniques of the visual arts, students can express ideas which cannot be expressed through language alone.

The curriculum is designed to provide students with a sequential program of art instruction from elementary school through high school. All students are given the opportunity to develop skills in creating, revising, exhibiting, and assessing their work, as well as gain knowledge and understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of the arts. Students also develop connections through the visual arts with other disciplines within the core curriculum and with art resources in the community.
